Schloss Philippsruhe (Philippsruhe Palace)
In 1701 construction began of Germany’s first Baroque palace
after the French model, on the bank of the River Main in Kesselstadt.
The owners gave the palace and the park the architectural
style of the time, while adjustments that have even included
a thorough redesign of the palace and park continued until the
end of the 19th century. The Historische Museum Hanau (Historical
Museum Hanau) has been accommodated in the corps
de logis of Schloss Philippsruhe since 1964 and is the regional
museum for the history, culture and art history of Hanau. One
of the palace wings contains the paper theatre museum.

Getting there: Coming from Frankfurt (Main) Süd and
from Hanau, you can reach Hanau West every half hour
(hourly at weekends) by regional train (Regionalbahn)
and from Aschaffenburg every hour by local rail (at least
every two hours at weekends). At Hanau West station take
bus No. 5 or 10 to “Schloss Philippsruhe”. The walk from
the station takes about 12 minutes.
