Löwenburg Castle in Wilhelmshöhe Hill Park
Löwenburg Castle was built between 1793 and 1801 as a
baroque summer residence. It houses royal chambers and a
well stocked armoury. The fascination of Löwenburg Castle
also results from its picturesque location in the park and
the contrast between the “mediaeval” character of its castle
architecture and the layout of a “baroque” castle. Löwenburg
Castle is thus an integral part of the park landscape, a summer
residence and a mausoleum and represents the only single work
of art of its kind in the world.
Opening hours: Guided tours only (every hour on
the hour) March–Oct. Tue–Sun and public holidays
10 a.m.–5 p.m., last tour 4 p.m., Nov.–Feb. Tue–Sun and
public holidays 10 a.m.–4 p.m., last tour 3 p.m. Open
weekends only in December (10 a.m.–4 p.m.). Advance
reservation required.

Getting there: You can travel to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe by taking
the regional express (Regional-Express), which operates
an hourly service from Korbach–Bad Arolsen (two-hourly
service on Sundays) and every two hours from Gießen–
Marburg–Treysa and Warburg (Westphalia). Then take
the tram 1 to the Wilhelmshöhe terminus (Park). In summer:
bus line 23 to the Löwenburg bus stop. In winter no
