Burg Kronberg im Taunus (Kronberg Castle)
Kronberg Castle, built between the 12th and 15th centuries, is
the only surviving hill castle in the Vordertaunus region. The
castle museum gives a complete picture of the castle’s history
and explains engagingly how the castle has been used over the
centuries. And it is really worth coming to see the unique and
accurate copy of a 14th century suit of armour that a Kronberg
knight would have worn. Equally fascinating is the medieval
kitchen with its well, kitchen equipment and utensils, and large
hearth. You have an amazing view over the Rhine-Main region
from the top of the over 40 metre high castle tower. Also: extensive
grounds for a stroll and a varying programme of events.
Opening hours: 2 weeks before Easter–Oct. Wed, Thu, Fri
(17.6.–16.9.), Sat 1 p.m.–5 p.m., Sun, public holidays and
during the Kronberg Christmas market 11 a.m.–6 p.m.;
Museum tours: Mon–Sat (Fri 17.6.–16.9. only) at 2, 3,
4 p.m., Sun. and public holidays hourly from 12 noon–
5 p.m. Guided tours on any day of the week can be booked.

Getting there: You reach Kronberg (Taunus) by the S-Bahn
line S 4 from Langen (Hesse)-Frankfurt a. M., which runs
every 30 min. (sun. and public holidays hourly until 1 p.m.).
From the station turn right into Bleichstraße (or take the
local bus) to Berliner Platz. Follow the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße
through the old town, follow the signs. About 15 min. walk.
