When security is vital
Of course, IT security and risk management involves trojans, viruses and
worms, but there is much more to it. This is why KiWiSecurity Software
GmbH recently received the coveted EuroPriSe data-privacy seal.
Winning the EuroPriSe award represents
official confirmation of dataprivacy
certification and that Ki-
WiSecurity products conform to the
principles of data protection in the automated
analysis of video. In other words, Privacy
Protector can be used in critical areas in
residential buildings, schools, airports, hospitals,
department stores and in the workplace
without violating anybody’s privacy.
A special process has been developed to
conceal the identities of individuals in realtime,
during recording, without affecting
information relevant to security. After receipt
of an automatic alarm, surveillance
personnel can switch to the location where
the video is being recorded immediately and
take appropriate measures. Privacy Protector
can be used either alone or with other Kiwi-
Vision modules. For example, Queue Detector
analyses the number of people in queues
without violating their privacy. Intrusion
Detector monitors the entrances of buildings
and closed-off areas, and Direction
Controller prevents unauthorised access to
streets and roads, stairs and escalators.
KiwiSecurity, a software company located
in Vienna, specialises in the development
of video-analysis applications. Currently,
13 employees are working on unique
analysis algorithms for network-based intelligent
surveillance tools of the future.
Vienna’s CYAN Networks Software GmbH
was founded in 2006. CYAN Secure Web, a
Web security gateway, protects companies
from cyber-attack and inappropriate employee
behaviour, such as unauthorised downloads
to company computers. In this way,
CYAN Secure Web can guarantee that the Internet
is used for business purposes only. In
addition to their strong presence in the core
markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland,
CYAN Networks has a constantly expanding
service network of partners and distributors
in the EU, and is focusing increasingly on the
growing demand-driven markets of Central
and Eastern Europe.
Since being founded in 1986, IKARUS Security
Software GmbH has worked on developing
security solutions, and the company
was one of the first to produce anti-virus
programs. Each year, IKARUS Security Software
GmbH invests approximately 75% of
total turnover in research, and is in contact
with security experts in a number of different
countries on the basis of cooperation
and special agreements. Everyday, IKARUS
experts around the world use electronic information
networks to share knowledge
about viruses with other research centres.
The focuses of current research is on technical
(formal description of virus), legal (new
approaches using special law) and social
(open and closed data security system
issues). The result of several years of development
work was the first comprehensive
language to describe viruses, ViDL (virus description
language). This concept was developed
jointly with the largest international
security institution, the International Computer
Security Association (ICSA), then improved,
and now represents the current
standard in the international fight against
computer viruses. Entering the Asian market
is one of the next important steps that will
be taken in the future.
