Model United Nation (MUN)
Model United Nation at Talitha Kumi School
Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of work
of the United Nations. Students from all over the world
meet at a certain venue to discuss current political Issues
in different committees. Therefore, they are assigned
a country (a member state of the UN) and a
committee, and are requested to adopt the role of
a delegate of that country. So the students have to
neglect their own position and represent the opinion
of their assigned state. The chair of the committee
renders the delegates the topics to be negotiated in
their committee. There can be various topics, ranging
from the Situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan to the
Water Problem in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is a demanding
assignment to the students to research on their
topics independently since it is often very hard to find
information on the internet if they have to represent
small countries such as Jamaica or Guinea-Bissau.
The Model United Nations Society of Talitha Kumi
School consists of a number of students that regularly
take part in national and international Model United
Nations Conferences.
Students participated in many National MUN confer-
ences and one international. They are:
1- PALMUN from January 17-19, 2016. 23 Students
participated in this MUN and two teachers.
2- ROSMUN from March 29th-April 1st, 2016 with the
Rosary Sisters in Jerusalem. 21 Students participated
in this MUN and two teachers.
1. MUN students participated in an International MEDI
MUN in Cyprus with seven students. It was from February
5-7, 2016.
2. Students used to have a weekly training for two
hours in order to be well-qualified as MUN delegates.
3. Students did food marketing in the school for 4 times
in order to gain some money for the project.
4. Students participated in the LUTHMUN which was
held in Talitha Kumi School from August 8-10, 2016.
5. Mock MUN in Talitha Kumi School was done for the
new students who joined the MUN team as a training.
This was on December 2nd, 2016. 36 students participated
in this conference.
6. Students participated in the PAL MUN conference
with Friends school in Ramallah between January
20-22, 2017.
