The phased-array antenna model<br />
in VSS provides a first-hand cut<br />
analysis of the array’s performance<br />
(Figure 5). As discussed<br />
earlier, the designer can simulate<br />
element failures and look at the<br />
resulting patterns. Yield analysis<br />
can be simulated as well and the<br />
model also supports frequency<br />
and temperature dependency.<br />
RF hardware impairments of the<br />
array will reduce system-level<br />
performance and can be caused<br />
by any number of items relating<br />
to the feed network design and<br />
related components. Therefore, it<br />
is imperative to be able to simulate<br />
the interactions between the<br />
antenna array and the individual<br />
RF links in the feed network.<br />

Defining the Array<br />

has been added to VSS that provides<br />
greater flexibility in defining<br />
the array. Not only can the<br />
geometry of the array be defined<br />
as rectangular, circular, or uni-<br />
