The Brandburg Gate, Berlin. Both illuminated by fireworks at New Year’s Eve. Some are afraid of the apocalypse in 2012, based on Roland Emmerich’s movie interpretation of the famous Maya prophecies. Actually, we survived other doom scenarios pretty well, take Nostradamus and the Millennium and numerous others. Let’s have a positive look into the future despite the Greek crisis, despite modern insecurities. The citizens of metropolitan areas like Berlin or Munich know how to transform such periods into creative action. There we have Tom Ford with his most recent fashion, shown in Berlin for men, in Munich for women. The genius picks up the shape of dresses from the restless 1930s. Fashion like armed protection against all threats. Stunning! But history does not repeat itself. This is why I promote an inspiration through crises, not the crises themselves. Which means: Positive forecasts only. Our big cities will face new highlights in 2012, as art, music, fashion, theater, the movies work as healing power in uncertain times. Go, visit art galleries Pinakothek and Museum Island, listen to the sounds of Staatsoper and Philharmonie. Be creative yourself in the clothes you wear. Let yourself be taken away into the other worlds of the stage and the movies. Talking about the movies and Emmerich: Berlin and Munich see many opening nights. Two were particularly remarkable in the last couple of weeks. Not easy going, but each great genial. Roland Emmerich’s ‘Anonymous’ about the ‘real’ Shakespeare. David Cronenberg’s movie about Sigmund Freud and C.G.Jung. Maybe they are prophets of a new age of seriousness. Not the worst forecast for 2012. 29
