Sport- in the meantime she had learned the correcttest and was able to qualify for the final witha third place.A word about the Pleasure classes: Even if onecan be of the opinion that the requirements inthe Pleasure classes do not come close to (higher)dressage, these tests are still very popular, which is reflected in the number of starters: 15participants in the qualifying run of the ClassicPleasure, 13 in Hunter Pleasure and 12 inWestern Pleasure. Therefore, these tests shouldnot be missing at any Arabian competition, because they are a good way to bring the tournamentatmosphere closer to the riders andoffer an "entry". In addition, the wheat is separatedfrom the chaff here, because it is not foreveryone (or for every horse) to trot and gallopwith 14 other couples in the arena, wherebyyou can be faster or slower depending on thedisposition of your horse and overtaking is expresslyallowed! As mentioned above, the gold and silver medalsin the Classic Pleasure went to Erasmosand FA Moonshadow, while Touch of Gold (byMCA Magnum Gold) *2012 and Sabrina Heiligenbrunner, who is also well known fromthe Arabian Festival in Stadl Paura, securedbronze; they had their debut at the EuropeanChampionships this year.As already mentioned, gold in the HunterPleasure, which is mainly ridden in a lightseat, went to Erasmos. The silver medal alsowent to Austria, won by Valerie (by Dormane)*2005 under Isabel Bartlechner. Bronze wentto Poland for the gelding Wasali (by Good Boy)*2016, ridden by Anastasiya Mazurkina. And of course there were also the costumeclasses (Mounted Native Costume or TraditionalArabian Riding). As mentioned, FA Moonshadowwon here, the silver medal was takenby FE's Princess (by Lamar) *2005 under SimoneAuinger, who we also know from Stadl Paura, and Bronze went to Zhingal (by Mamoun)*2012, a gelding bred from “old german lines”in Austria under Teresa Kirisits.Unfortunately, neither jumping nor drivingtitles could be awarded this year. While thedriving sport with Arabian horses has unfortunatelyalways been very poor in numbers, thisyear the show jumpers could not be motivatedto come to Wiener Neustadt either - that's ashame, because this discipline also belongs toan "all-rounder" like it the Arab is one.THE WESTERN DISCIPLINESMartin Pauli then achieved a double victoryin the reining: In this supreme discipline ofwestern riders he was able to (finally!) achievethe longed-for European champion titlein reining with his homebred Zahims Naviiand with WAS Tajshan Ibn Taraszena, bredand owned by Evelyn and Dieter Ruess inGermany, he won the silver medal, too! Likefather, like sons, you could say, because thesire of both horses is Zid Ibn El Zahim, whowas himself European champion in reining in2008 and 2009 – targeted sport horse breedingpays off after all! Zahims Navii not onlyfollows his sire’s hoofprints in sport, he isEmis (Haytham Albadeia / Emrida) *2013 took 2 x Bronze in Dressage and Allround Classic withhis rider Nikola Stankiewicz from Poland. - Emis holte sich 2 x Bronze in Dressur und AllroundClassic unter seiner Reiterin Nikola Stankiewicz aus Polen.now also used in breeding as one of the fewstallions with a stallion performance test inWestern.A "New Kid on the Block" was the 7-year-oldgelding Batist (ZT Shakfantasy / Batista)*2015, ridden by Reinhard Hochreiter. In thequalifying run he was just ahead of Tajshan, but had to admit defeat to the more experiencedhorse in the finals. In the trail, the "veteran" Pajan, who was almostretired while his rider Sonja Kittel devotedherself to her own "offspring", was able toscore again. He is one of the early breedingproducts of the Dries family from the Fronleitenhofin Austria. He is a son of the foundingstallion BR Black Flag, and is the riding horseof daughter Sonja. Things didn't go so smoothlyfor the two of them in the qualificationrun and they had to leave the track with a"zero score", but since there were fewer than10 starters, they were still qualified for thefinal. Here they were able to repeat their successfrom 2015, when they became EuropeanChampion in Trail back then. And yet another offspring of Zid Ibn El Zahimwas able to win a medal: WAS ZahimsZarina under Sabrina Pauli took silver in thetrail after leading the qualification run bya wide margin. The bronze medal went toEl Trocadero (by Psyrasic) *2008, a geldingwho has been successfully at the EuropeanChampionships for many years with his riderKarin Lenhard. This year he was the "eternallythird" because he also got the bronze medalsin Western Pleasure and Western Allround.Ranch riding is a discipline that is growingin popularity. It combines elements fromreining such as stops, backwards and turnswith basic gaits that are ridden briskly forwards.Horses that are good at extendedmovements – which are not usually shown inWestern sports – can also score points here, especially in the extended trot. The winner ofthis test was GFH Saguaro - or "cactus", as heis affectionately known - under Doris Pfann. He was also at the European Championshipsfor the first time and comes from the provenwestern horse breeding of the Fronleitenhof. His father Baikal is well known from previousEuropean Championships, when he wonthree gold and two silver medals in reining. So here is gold in Ranch Riding for GFH Saguaro, followed by WAS Zahims Zarina andQueen Alaya both ridden by Sabrina Pauli, who thus achieved a double success. All threehorses come from proven sires who haveshown their skills under saddle, a fact whichcannot be stressed enough. Finally, two Pleasure classes should be mentioned:Western Pleasure was won by MM Sandrine(by QR Marc) *2010 under Mario Matt– here the President of the Arabian BreedingAssociation rides himself! Queen Alayah tooksilver and El Trocadero took bronze, as mentionedabove. In "Costume Riding" El Trocaderowon, Queen Alayah took silver and a newcomer,Rasikh El Nafeesah with Andrea Pufflertook bronze - but only three participantscompeted...SHINING CHILDREN'S EYESThe best idea at this year's European Championshipswas the Children on Lead class. Thelittle riders were just 2.5 to 7 years old and beamedall over their faces - and with them theproud parents. And all the horses behaved inan exemplary manner and took care of theirlittle riders - who, depending on their age, were of course held by an attendant. A betteradvertisement for the Arabian horse is hardto imagine! The European Championship for ArabianSport Horses was launched 20 years ago. It isthanks to Sissi Chat, who was again responsibleas organiser this year that this championshipstill exists and even took place duringthe Corona years. It is to be hoped that thisshowcase of the ridden Arabian will remainfor many more years to come!Gudrun Waiditschka© ARABISCHE PFERDE - IN THE FOCUS 3/202258
