24.3.–17.9.2023 Out of Use – Everyday Life in Transition
From monkey fur to spittoons, from typewriters to Game Boy:
the theme of this exhibition is objects that are no longer in
use. As relics of the everyday life of the past, they tell of three
centuries of technical and social changes and the vicissitudes
of fashion.

There is no life without intoxication. How can we deal with
the phenomenon of intoxication? Embark on a journey of
discovery.

The Haus zum Kirschgarten was built to be the home and
business premises of an 18th-century silk-ribbon
manufacturer. Its period rooms and temporary shows now
afford us a glimpse of how Basel’s affluent bourgeoisie
once lived.
