This is a place for pondering, debating and investigating
architecture. It is also the leading institution for the
communication of architecture and building culture in
Switzerland. With its temporary exhibitions and events,
the museum examines the influence of architecture
and urban development on our daily lives.
→ 12.3.2023 Make Do With Now: New Directions in
Japanese Architecture
This group show shines a light on young, lesser-known
architectural positions in Japan. The architects presented are
all responding to today’s most urgent problems – the climate
crisis, social change, neoliberalism – with new ways of
designing and working that redefine the role of the architect.
1.4.–27.8.2023 Homo Urbanus – A City-Matographic
Odyssey by Bêka & Lemoine
Bêka & Lemoine’s Homo Urbanus series portrays the public
spaces of ten major world cities and the local singularities
of global co-existence. The ten films invite visitors to take in
the rhythm of different space-time sequences and observe
our individual and group behaviour as urban animals.
9.9.–5.11.2023 SAY – Swiss Architecture Yearbook 2023
What defines Swiss architecture, and how does it contribute
to the overall quality of life in various parts of the country?
This exhibition focuses on current construction and renovation
projects with the aim of raising awareness of Swiss
building culture and enhancing its visibility.
25.11.2023–3.3.2024 What if
Lost, rejected, abandoned or altered ... There are countless
architectural designs in Switzerland that are still talked about,
even though they were never actually built. The S AM takes
a look at some of them and constructs a utopian-dystopian
image of what Switzerland might have become.
