Economic characteristics
The active domiciled population in Valle dei Mòcheni totals 42% of the overall population (data from
2001). They are mainly employed in the field of services. However, a large percentage (27%) is
employed in the industrial sector. 15% work in agriculture <strong>and</strong> commerce. Agriculture still plays an
important role in the valley’s economy, as 15% of the domiciled population are employed in this
sector, whereas the province’s average equals 5%. If we consider the municipalities individually, what
results is that above all Palù del Fersina <strong>and</strong> Sant’Orsola Terme are dedicated to services, while more
people are employed in the industrial sector in Fierozzo <strong>and</strong> Frassilongo. These are also the
municipalities with the largest number of people employed in farming (Table 32).

The area’s unemployment rate amounts to about 2%, peaking in Palù del Fersina, where it reaches
4.88% (Table 33).
