Territory 3: Tesino - Vanoi
Geographical characteristics
The Tesino <strong>and</strong> Vanoi area includes 5 municipalities, namely Bieno, Canal San Bovo, Castello
Tesino, Cinte Tesino <strong>and</strong> Pieve Tesino. It stretches across two comprensori (administrative units
larger than municipalities, but smaller than provinces). The Canal San Bovo municipality stretches
across the Primiero comprensorio, whereas the other ones belong to the Bassa Valsugana <strong>and</strong> Tesino
comprensorio, both from the geographic <strong>and</strong> administrative points of view.
The municipalities are not too fractionated on the territory, with the exceptions of Canal San Bovo,
which is divided into 6 inhabited centres <strong>and</strong> 5 inhabited nucleuses, <strong>and</strong> that of Castello Tesino, which
has only one centre, but 5 inhabited nucleuses 4 .

The Tesino plateau st<strong>and</strong>s out for its beautiful, gently undulating, green l<strong>and</strong>scape. It is studded with
pastures <strong>and</strong> cultivated fields, while the woodl<strong>and</strong> in the Vanoi valley, especially on the left bank of
the stream of the same name, is the main feature of the area, which has been nicknamed “Trentino’s
green heart”.
The Tesino-Vanoi area is situated in the mountain belt of the Trentino territory, at an average altitude
of 827 metres. As a matter of fact, the altitude ranges from Canal San Bovo’s 757 metres to Cinte
Tesino’s 871 metres, with some hamlets of the five municipalities situated at over 1000 metres above
sea level. The overall surface area exceeds 349 square kilometres <strong>and</strong> accounts for less than 6% of the
surface of the province.
