Our programme of spring training
courses has already begun in
earnest.
The most popular ones continue to
be our one day LANTRA accredited
sports turf maintenance courses,
covering Winter Sports
(Football/Rugby); Cricket (Spring &
Summer Preparations); Bowls
(Crown & Flat Greens); and
Artificial Surfaces.
LANTRA is the UK’s Sector Skills
Council for Horticulture,
Landscaping & Sports Turf, and the
Pitchcare courses are the only ones
in our industry to have this
independent accreditation,
meaning that attendees have the

are both very novice groundsmen we found the
course very informative and enjoyable. Chris
Parry is very knowledgeable and his delivery
was perfectly pitched for everyone on the
course. We are now both keen to get out there

During 2011, four further
instructors were recruited and
accredited, all senior groundsmen
and/or sports turf specialists, so we
are now able to offer our courses
in all areas of the UK. In fact, we
recently conducted a two day
course (on Winter Sports and
Artificial Surfaces) for the
groundsmen on the island of
Guernsey, as reported in the last
issue.
These courses are designed
particularly for the volunteer or
part-time groundsman, or a young
person considering developing a
career as a groundsman. They
provide comprehensive basic
knowledge of the safe and efficient
operation of the machinery and
equipment used, and details of the
individual operations required to
maintain the particular playing

people to join a course!
