Chapter IX<br />

Course <strong>Training</strong> Standards<br />

IX-1<br />

<strong>CNATRA</strong>INST <strong>1542.123C</strong><br />

11 FEB 2008<br />

1. Purpose. These standards outline the tasks and pr<strong>of</strong>iciency<br />

required <strong>of</strong> Instructors Under <strong>Training</strong> (IUT) during Advanced<br />

training. This training prepares an <strong>of</strong>ficer to perform the<br />

duties <strong>of</strong> a T-39 Mission Commander/Instructor or T-45C ATM<br />

Instructor Pilot.<br />

2. IUT Duties and Responsibilities<br />

a. Plan or manage the overall mission as appropriate.<br />

b. Ensure the aircraft is preflighted, inspected, and<br />

equipped for the assigned mission.<br />

c. Help the student operate the aircraft or aircraft<br />

systems, as applicable, to accomplish the mission using sound<br />

judgment and airmanship.<br />

3. General Standards<br />

a. Achieve training standards to be qualified as a T-39<br />

Mission Commander/Instructor or T-45C ATM Instructor Pilot.<br />

b. Unless otherwise specified, use BASIC AIR WORK<br />

RECOGNITION (BAR) standards for all items with altitude,<br />

airspeed, or heading parameters.<br />

c. “Standard” equates to good (G/4).<br />

d. Momentary deviations outside CTS that do not compromise<br />

flight safety are acceptable if subsequent corrections are<br />

timely.<br />

e. Procedural knowledge and application must comply with<br />

applicable directives and allow efficient mission<br />

accomplishment. If individual tasks require pre-mission<br />

planning, the standards from MISSION PLANNING apply.<br />

4. Execution. The Maneuver Item File (MIF) regulates IUT<br />

progression to meet required standards prior to phase<br />

completion. SIs shall evaluate IUT performance against these<br />

standards.
