2.7 Polarization<br />

The electromagnetic field consists of electric and magnetic field vectors which<br />

are orthogonal to each other as show in the Figure 2.9. The property of waves which<br />

orients itself during oscillations is called polarization. There are different types of<br />

polarizations they are<br />

• Linear<br />

• Circular<br />

• Elliptical<br />

Based on the application of RFID systems the type of the polarization is con-<br />

sidered. It is very important to have knowledge of polarization in RFID because, the<br />

readability of the tag depends on the orientation of the tag.<br />
