6.2.1.2 USB and UART<br />

The µController chip has SMBus/I 2 C,Enhanced UART, and Enhanced SPI se-<br />

rial interfaces are implemented in hardware. The presence of Universal Serial Bus<br />

(USB) function controller with eight flexible endpoint pipes, integrated transceiver<br />

and have a RAM of 1K FIFO. The Figure 6.6 shows the connection to a USB con-<br />

nector. Pin 4,5 are D+ and D- of the µC chip is connected to D+ and D- of the USB<br />

connector. Pin 8 of µC chip is the Vbus which is connected to Vbus of µC chip.<br />

6.2.1.3 Transceiver connections<br />

The µController chip programs the transceiver controlling the RF front end.<br />

Port 0 is connected to the transceiver. The connections are as shown in the Figure 6.6.<br />

The Vref pin 27(P0.7) of µController chip is connected to the GD2 of the transceiver.<br />

Similarly pin 28(P0.6) to GD0, pin 31(P0.3) to CSn, pin 32(P0.2) to S1 and pin 2(P0.0)<br />

to Sclk of the transceiver respectively. The transceiver allows serial programming, it<br />

contains various configuration,status and control registers which are accessible. The<br />

configuration is called 4-wire serial configuration and data transfer which is later<br />

discussed in further sections.<br />

6.2.2 Transceiver CC1101<br />

The Blocking Reader uses a transceiver chip from Chipcon (later bought by<br />

TI) know as CC1101. CC1101 is a wonderful low-cost low-power sub-1GHz RF<br />

transceiver. It is not solely designed for a RFID purpose like a TI 100$ Reader<br />

chip. But the cost and functionality of the chip is very impressive.<br />
