Bleeding disorders have been of much concern to health professionals including
Dentists for quiet some time. Hemophilia patients are special patients from a
dental point of view, as the highly vascular oral cavity is definitely a hotspot for
hemorrhage in this group of patients. It is not infrequently that a dentist become
the first person to diagnose a bleeding disorder while performing routine dental
treatments. Thorough knowledge of systematic approach is mandatory for any
dental health professional raring to handle hemophiliacs the absence of which can lead to
disastrous outcomes.
I am very glad to note that IDA Kunnamkulam Branch is bringing out a hand
book to educate the IDA members about the Dental Management of Hemophilia patients. I am
sure this hand book would be of great help to our IDA Members to learn more about the
necessary precautions to be carried out while treating hemophilia patients in our day to day
practice. I congratulate IDA Kunnamkulam branch especially the Editor, Dr. Joji George for the
sincere efforts in bringing out this handbook and releasing it during the state level observation of
world Hemophilia Day on 17 th April 2011. I hope and wish our fellow members will find this
book useful in their practice.
