Dear friends, IDA KERALA STATE CDH CHAIRMANíS MESSAGE Warm greetings to you ! Indian Dental Association Kerala State branch is stepping ahead once again,by marking itís role in building up a healthy Nation ! By the introduction of ASHAKIRAN ( the pain & palliative care project) last year , we have given a new face to our activities. Today ,on this 17th of April ,when we observe the World Hemophilia Day by conducting a Hemophilia workshop, we are happy to release a Hand book for Dental Surgeons on management of persons with Hemophilia. This Hand book will be an asset to all Dental Surgeons. At the same time, let me thank all the members of Indian Dental Association for giving their whole hearted support in the new steps of the Council on Dental Health,of IDA Kerala State. IDA KERALA STATE EDITORíS MESSAGE Hemophilia is a genetic, life threatening bleeding disorder. In persons with hemophilia (PwH) blood does not clot normally due to deficiency or absence of clotting proteins called Factors. The disease is a lifelong bleeding disorder, incurable in nature and a very expensive to manage in terms of medication and care. Recurrent and prolonged bleeding into joints and muscles can lead to permanent disability. Bleeding from the sensitive organs can lead even to death. IDA through its CDH activity can play a major role in helping hemophila patitents. As apart from providing factor and other medical care such as physiotherapy for affected persons, IDA can reach out across the community, educating people about hemophilia and attempting to de-stigmatize the condition. Our aim to reach out to community and provide total quality care, education, make treatment available at affordable cost, psycho-social support, and economic rehabilitation and thus help them in improving the quality of life without disability and free of pain. There are miles to go before fulfilling the vision of IDA ìHemophilia without Disability, Free of Pain.î
