Country Garden Roses. Is There A Rose With Your Name On It ? NATHALIE (Nathalie Nypels) (Shrub Rose) Semi double salmon pink blooms in small elegant clusters adorn this very pretty shrub. Flower production is excellent and the repeat blooms is quite rapid. Good disease resistance on a well foliated bush. Quite low growing and very spreading habit. Makes a very useful companion plant in mixed borders as it never clashes or looks out of place. Has been around a long time and is still as popular as ever. If you want a rose with blooms at all times through the summer, this is the one. Also makes an attractive scented hedge. Sweetly Scented. Also known as 'Mevrouw Nathalie Nypels' & 'Mrs Nathalie Nypels' Royal Horticultural Society Award Of Garden Merit 1993 NICOLA (Floribunda Rose) A very attractive rose that does not get the recognition it deserves. Large trusses of beautiful rose shocking pink blooms, which repeat well and flower until the autumn and the first frosts. A real eye catching rose in the garden that will brighten up any dull area. There are plenty of blooms so dead head regularly to keep the blooms coming and keep the bush tidy. A nice clean compact bush with healthy foliage which sets the blooms of to perfection. Not too big so can also be grown in a large container and really brighten up the patio. A bright cheery rose that really grows on you. Pleasant perfume. NINA (Renaissance Rose) Superb large blooms of cream to yellow on this good strong rose. Looks great on its own or in a group and makes a terrific hedge. As with most of this group the perfume is outstanding. As we have said before we are great admirers of this group of roses as they are so reliable, healthy, and the majority have a superb fragrance NIPPER (Shrub Rose) A lovely modern shrub with masses of flowers of medium red. Can be also grown as a Ground Cover rose as it often grows wider than its height. Healthy small dark green glossy foliage and a good disease resistant record. If you are looking to fill a large area in the flower bed, this rose will do the job nicely. An odd name for such a big shrub. Not a powerful perfume, but very pleasant. OCTAVIA (Octavia Hill) (Floribunda Rose) The clear medium pink flowers of this variety contain an astonishing 75 petals. They have a Damask fragrance and come in small sprays of neatly spaced blooms. The blooms are about 3ins (8cm) in diameter and have a double quartered form with an attractive old fashioned look. The foliage is a semi glossy dark green on a medium sized compact bush. A good healthy rose which is fairly disease resistant. It is a fairly vigorous plant, but requires the removal of spent blooms to initiate the next bloom cycle and promote new growth. Makes a good cottage garden rose. The flowers are ideal for cutting for their perfume, and they also last some time in water. Highly recommended. Named after the late Octavia Hill an English social reformer, housing reformer, philanthropist and co-founder of the National Trust. In her time Octavia Hill was an influential and well-known figure, now she is regarded as an important pioneer of female activism in the public sphere. Although her name is not so familiar today, her legacy is with us in our public parks, Victorian/Edwardian housing estates, and in professions such as social work. She combined extraordinary vision with exceptional organisational skills and these equipped her to invent the concept of the 'green belt' and become the driving force behind the founding of the National Trust. Country Garden Roses. Is There A Rose With Your Name On It ? OLIVIA (Hybrid Tea Rose) A lovely new Hybrid Tea from USA with large blooms of clear rose pink. A tall statuesque rose with large frilly edged blooms, and very beautiful. The flowers are produced from June until November, with healthy medium green semi glossy foliage. 'Olivia' is an ideal rose if you require a single specimen rose or makes a fantastic display on masse in the garden. The long stems make it a great cut flower as the perfume fills the room. Also known in the USA as 'Ruffles & Flourishes. OTHELLO (English Rose. David Austin) Large showy blooms of deep blood red turning purple with age. Repeats well. A vigorous upright bush with good disease resistance. A really beautiful shrub rose which is a must for all David Austin enthusiasts. A striking and unusual rose which is very hardy with a strong rich Old Rose fragrance. Named after Shakespeare's Moor. PAPA (Papa Meilland) (Hybrid Tea Rose) The elegant pointed buds on this lovely rose open to reveal dark velvety-crimson blooms of exquisite form. Sends out one bloom per stem on long straight stems which are ideal for cutting. Leathery olive green glossy foliage. Not the hardiest of roses and needs a cosy spot to thrive. One of the loveliest roses around and well worth the extra effort. Very Fragrant Named by Alain Meilland as a fitting tribute to his grandfather Antoine. AWARDS Baden Baden Gold Medal 1962 James Alexander Fragrance Medal 1974 'Papa Meilland' was voted the World's Favourite Rose in 1988 by the World Federation Of Rose Societies. The Federation also entered the rose into the Society's Rose Hall Of Fame an honour shared with just 13 other roses. PAT (Pat Austin) (English Rose. David Austin) This is an entirely new colour break in English Roses. A bright copper on the inside of the petals, with pale copper-yellow on the outer sides. The flowers are large and deeply cupped, the contrasting colours between the two sides of the petals giving a most attractive effect. The growth is strong and of a similar type to 'Golden Celebration' and 'Abraham Darby'. Strong Tea-scented with a warm, sensuous background. Named after the late Pat Austin, David Austin's wife. Also known as "Flame" PATRICIA (Floribunda Rose) This lovely rose is certainly one of the most popular roses on the nursery. The buds appear in an attractive shade of red and open to clear blooms of salmon pink, deeper on the petal rims and paler on the outside, plus the bonus of lovely golden stamens. The blooms appear in clusters and make a cracking show of colour in the garden. It flowers profusely throughout the summer and well into autumn and the first frosts. Dead head regularly to promote further blooms and keep the bush tidy. A lovely rose for cutting as they make a superb cut flower with a great perfume. Definitely one for the flower arrangers.
