Country Garden Roses. Is There A Rose With Your Name On It ?
SOPHIE (Sophie’s Perpetual) (Shrub Rose)
An old China Rose of unknown origin but was re-introduced in 1960.
Shapely double globular blooms of pale blush pink overlaid with cerise-crimson, particularly on
the outer petals.
Flowers almost continually through the summer plus the bonus of a lovely perfume.
Dark green foliage. Can also be grown as a small climber and is very useful for arches and
pathways as it is almost thornless.
A very versatile rose as it is shade tolerant and will cope with most soils.
This old rose was re-discovered in 1960 and named for Countess Beckendorf by rosarian Humphey Brooke.
Also known as, 'Bengal Centifolia' 'Dresden China' 'Paul's Dresden China'
SOPHY (Sophy’s Rose) (English Rose. David Austin)
The broad and rather flat, rosette-shaped flowers of an attractive light red or deep pink colouring
mingle well with the other colours.
The effect is a little different from other red roses, which tend to have a certain 'sameness'
about them.
It repeat flowers very well and. with its upright bushy and healthy growth, is ideally suited for
bedding or for the front of the border.
Excellent in both the UK and much warmer climates.
There is a lovely light Tea Rose fragrance.
Named for Dyslexia Action (formerly known as the Dyxlexia Institute)
STEPHEN (Stephen’s Big Purple) (Hybrid Tea Rose)
Bred in New Zealand this beautiful hybrid tea has large blooms of deep beetroot purple
shade.
It is a remarkable colour which may not appeal to every one but is a must if you are interested
in odd coloured roses.
Dark green foliage which is the perfect foil for this unusual colour. Repeats well and produces
blooms throughout the summer and into autumn depending on the weather.
A healthy variety which seems to have good disease resistance.
Makes a real statement in the garden plus the bonus of a superb perfume.
Also known as "Big Purple"
SUSAN (Renaissance Rose)
This beautiful rose is probably the most popular of the Renaissance group.
It produces masses of attractive blooms of creamy white with a slight pink tinge and the many
petalled blooms have a real old fashioned look.
The flower production is very generous with plenty of blooms from early summer until well
into the autumn and the first frosts.
The spent blooms should be removed regularly to promote further flowering and to keep the
plant tidy.
In our opinion this is definitely one of the best of the Renaissance group.
The whole of the group is highly recommended as we have yet to come across a poor specimen in the entire range.
As with most of the range the perfume is outstanding and 'Susan' is no exception.
SUSAN (Susan Ann) (Floribunda Rose)
An award winning rose.
'Susan Ann' has about 28 apricot petals, which form a very pleasing shape, and are carried in
moderate sized clusters, on a tall and spreading bush.
This lovely rose in well regarded for its good colour and vigour, and the fact that it does well in
all climates and the blooms are pretty weatherproof and do not fade with age.
The spent blooms should be removed to promote quicker re-blooming.
The healthy foliage is glossy green and disease resistant.
An excellent bedding rose with a good perfume.
