VINCENT RAIMBAULT BEL AIR
VOUVRAY 2008
AC
TASTING NOTE: Racy, sleek and vibrant wine.
Lacks the sweetness some of us love, but for bonedry-heads,
this is it. There’s muscle along with
sinew, though, and feral musk. Fascinating
three-dimensionality at first, then kind of funnels
toward pinpointedness as it finishes. (Joe Appel,
www.pressherald.mainetoday.com, Sept. 15, 2010)
RHÔNE
FERRATON PÈRE & FILS
SAMORËNS BLANC 2009
AC Côtes du Rhône
TASTING NOTE: Michel Ferraton and his father
began crafting wines in 1946. This white blend has
a delightful citrus and apple nose, inviting you
into its fresh flavours of apricot, tropical fruit, lemon
zest, pineapple and melon. A lively white, with
bright acidity and a crisp, dry finish. A refreshing
accompaniment to pork and applesauce, or
grilled scallops. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)
FRANCE – RED WINE
BORDEAUX
CHÂTEAU DES MOINES 2008
AC Lalande-de-Pomerol
(Henri Darnajou & Frères, Prop.)
TASTING NOTE: The Darnajou family has been
operating their vineyard since the 1940s, making
Bordeaux reds of very fine quality. Leading with a
floral nose with a hint of mocha, this Merlot-based
Right Bank beauty exudes plenty of fresh fruit.
Plum, cassis, bell pepper and creamy vanilla
revisit the palate in waves. A medium-bodied
wine with good acidity and length. A delicious
companion to escargots or coq au vin. (VINTAGES
panel, May 2010)
CHÂTEAU LE BRULE 2006
AC Médoc
TASTING NOTE: 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet
Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. A medium
ruby colour, and a pretty floral nose, somewhat
like fresh peonies. There’s good fruit here, with
lots of creamy raspberry, currant and cassis that
replay nicely on the palate to a smooth, dry
finish. A fabulous value for a Médoc wine. Sip
this alongside your favourite cheeses, or with a
hearty lamb stew. (VINTAGES panel, May 2010)
CHÂTEAU LE GRAND MOULIN 2008
Cuvée Grande Réserve,
AC Premières Côtes de Blaye
This wine won a Gold Medal at the 2010 Concours
Général Agricole in Paris.
TASTING NOTE: This winery was founded by
Gabriel Bruneteau in 1904, and is now run by his
great-grandson. 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet
Sauvignon, this red boasts an attractive coffee nose,
and creamy flavours of raspberry, blackberry,
smoky caramel, toffee and earth. A toasty, complex,
medium-full-bodied wine with good length. A
grilled steak or a rack of lamb will suit this pretty
Bordeaux nicely. (VINTAGES panel, May 2010)
CHÂTEAU REYSSON 2005
AC Haut-Médoc
Silver Medal at the 2008 Concours des Grands
Vins de Mâcon.
TASTING NOTE: Medium ruby with a hint of
bricking. A wonderfully expressive nose of smoked
meat, blackberry, mineral, fresh fig, and dark
chocolate. Dry, with the fruits, tannins and acids
all playing impeccably off one another. An
intriguing, smoky fruit core is apparent all the way
through. Medium bodied wtih a fairly long finish.
A good value-priced cellar candidate (3-5+ years)
from the great 2005 vintage, or enjoy it tonight
with rare roast beef. (VINTAGES panel, Dec. 2010)
