9302 AUXILIARY MACHINERY OFFICER [AUX MACH] [Job Code: 002179]<br />

Administers ship's engineering division in operations <strong>and</strong> maintenance of heating <strong>and</strong> air-conditioning<br />

equipment, diesel engines, boat engines, <strong>and</strong> electrohydraulic <strong>and</strong> other auxiliary machinery. Establishes <strong>and</strong><br />

maintains st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> procedures for operating <strong>and</strong> maintaining machinery <strong>and</strong> equipment. Investigates causes of<br />

equipment malfunctions <strong>and</strong> determines methods of repair of unusual or difficult cases. Initiates requisitioning of<br />

repair parts <strong>and</strong> fuel for auxiliaries. Supervises preparation of machinery logs <strong>and</strong> records.<br />

instructs all phases of diving. Establishes procedures for maintenance of decompression chambers, diving dresses,<br />

pumps, compressors, underwater tools <strong>and</strong> associated diving equipment. Determines probable number of dives<br />

required <strong>and</strong> duration of dives, coordinating surface <strong>and</strong> underwater activities. Observes performance of<br />

diver-tenders <strong>and</strong> other diver-assistant <strong>personnel</strong> to ensure safety of divers. Inspects <strong>and</strong> evaluates underwater<br />

situations.<br />
