5.2.2 It is observed that the coverage <strong>of</strong> high yielding varieties <strong>of</strong> jowar was <strong>of</strong> the order <strong>of</strong> 6636.33<br />

thous<strong>and</strong> hectares or 63.32 percent <strong>of</strong> the total area under jowar. The coverage <strong>of</strong> traditional<br />

varieties was 3844.07 thous<strong>and</strong> hectares or 36.68 percent. This is a reflection <strong>of</strong> the efforts for<br />

promotion <strong>of</strong> high yielding varieties by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture.<br />

5.2.3 The State-wise distribution <strong>of</strong> area under ‘High Yielding Varieties’ <strong>and</strong> ‘Traditional Varieties’ is<br />

given in Table No. 8.
