8400-4IM - Business French level intermediate written
40 hours of contact – 4 US quarter credits – 6 ECTS credits
� Summary
In order to work in a French-speaking environment, one has to be comfortable with oral and written
French. Through this module, students will reinforce their syntax and lexical competencies related to
the hospitality industry. They will be able to understand and write most usual business documents
such as letters, order forms or emails.
� Objective
Upon successful completion of this module, students must be able to write professional documents
and to communicate in French, in daily life and business situations. This module also provides an
opportunity to obtain the “Certification de la Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris” (CCIP).
8405IM – Academic Writting
40 hours of contact – 4 US quarter credits – 6 ECTS credits
� Summary
Undergraduate studies demand specific writing and thinking skills across the curriculum. In this
module, students will develop the writing process in a variety of professional contexts and become
competent at addressing different readers. Students will write academic papers in French, using
multiple sources as well as a standard referencing format. They will extend their critical thinking
skills by analyzing situations and by applying theoretical models from other academic courses.
� Objective
Upon successful completion of this module students should have acquired the necessary
competences to write effective academic papers in French, in order to apply both critical thinking and
writing strategies required at a university level
8400-1BM – Spanish level beginner
40 hours of contact – 3.5 US quarter credits – 4 ECTS credits
� Summary
This module will give students the basic linguistic competencies, both oral and written, to be able to
communicate in Spanish.
Students will be able to talk about themselves and their surroundings in simple terms (where they
come from, age, profession, etc.), understand clear statements relating to everyday matters
(restaurant, shop, place of study or workplace, hospital, etc.) and write short texts (notes, postcards,
etc.).
