colors, the red still looks red, <strong>and</strong> the yellow still appears as yellow in their re-<br />

spective surroundings. Clearly, the human visual system relies <strong>on</strong> more than just<br />

a single color sensati<strong>on</strong>. The envir<strong>on</strong>ment has a great effect <strong>on</strong> the overall ap-<br />

pearance of a color, as simultaneous c<strong>on</strong>trast maintains the relative relati<strong>on</strong>ships<br />

between the colors. Hence, visi<strong>on</strong> is more than just physical energy <strong>and</strong> perceptual<br />

resp<strong>on</strong>ses, but is subjective <strong>and</strong> is affected by <strong>on</strong>e’s interpretati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
