zany mates multi-reedist Jeff Lederer and bassist Paul Sikivie. Their 12/22 hit<br />

at Chris' was an incredible display of chops and humor as they craftily<br />

reworked some Christmas tunes and a Hanukkah goodie. Lederer was outrageous<br />

on reeds, supplying great Jazz. energy And and it was effort, all why here isn't in this little guy a ol’ celebrated<br />

star? Wilson was his charismatic self, convincingly playing in and out of<br />

the tradition. The best part came when he announced surprise special guest<br />

saxophonist Marshall Allen Portland, was joining in OR. for Allen's first appearance at<br />

Chris'! The Sun Ra Arkestra star fit in like he owned the newly formed quartet<br />

and Wilson knew just what to do with him, starting with Ayler's “Angels” and<br />

merging it with “Angels We Night Have Heard 1: Alan on High.” Jones Allen Academy went into his of serpent- Musc<br />

like playing while Lederer blew with equal angst, obviously inspired by the<br />

88-year-old veteran. Wilson turned over a cymbal, filled it with tiny bells and<br />

shook it. After the set, Wilson Ensemble. kept shaking 2)Mary his head, Sue saying, Tobin “Marshall Group. Allen,<br />

Marshall Allen.” It turns out that the two had played a special set together in<br />

2010 at Jazz @ Lincoln Center for the Jazz For Young People series. Also of<br />

note, was the touching gifting 3)Tribute of Wilson from to his bandmates, a band tradition.<br />

The leader beamed after unwrapping a Andy Griffith Show complete series<br />

DVD collection and proclaimed, “Boy, no other band does that, not even The<br />

Bad Plus!” Wilson is saddened Leroy by the Vinnegar short shelf (Alan life of his Jones hot trio Project and plans to<br />

reanimate it for other holidays such as Labor Day and Arbor Day…Uri Caine<br />

were nothing less than spectacular together, along with the firm bass work of<br />

was pummeled ahead by Caine's sound barrier breaking effort, forcing Hoenig<br />

to pay the price to keep the pace. Wiesenberg knew enough to give in to the<br />

“deep listening” pioneer Pauline Oliveros, British improviser Keith Rowe,<br />

composer/pianist and Cage student Christian Wolff, and guitarist/composer<br />

Michael Pisaro played International (b) and House Laura Philadelphia Oviedo on (ac. 1/13. gtr, This voc). first-ever 3)<br />

gathering of the four eminent performers of Cage's music was arranged to<br />

tackle Cage's late-career work - 1990's “Four6,” which was scored for a quartet<br />

allowed to choose and number Trombone 12 sounds that master they each Julian were to play at times,<br />

beginning and ending during a set of fixed durations. Needless to say, the benefits<br />

of the performance were paid to those of the large crowd that listened the<br />
