More milestones for Quality Fish and Chips
Since the last issue of the Fish Friers Review the NFFF Fish and Chip
Quality Award scheme has celebrated a number of proud acheivements
as it completed its 18th month of operation. Firstly, there are now over
200 participating shops in the scheme, which puts us within reach of
our end of year target.
Secondly, we are delighted to welcome the first multiples (five or more
outlets under the same operator) to successfully pass the assessment
and scoop the award:
Congratulations to Daniel Pettit, proud owner of ‘Daniel’s’. This group of
five takeaway shops in Dorset are the first multiple to pass the award in
the southern region.
Scotland’s first multiple newcomer is The Ashvale with ten outlets
throughout Aberdeenshire. The Ashvale outlets are a mixture of
takeaways – some with eat in facilities - and impressive restaurants.

Yorkshire can celebrate with the Murphy family, owners of the five
Wetherby Whaler takeaways and restaurants who recently passed the
assessments. This includes their flagship takeaway and restaurant on
the site of the original Harry Ramsden’s in Guiseley.
Thirdly, the deadline for entry into the consumer guide to the UK’s Top
Fish and Chip Shops passed on 30th July and 100,000 copies of the
booklet are now being distributed throughout participating shops,
tourist visitor centres and visitor attractions around the country. Any
entries missing the deadline this year will be included in our special
2013 version which will also coincide with the NFFF Centenary
celebrations.
