Classica Secunda 2095 – The Precision Grandfather Clock
Erwin Sattler continues the tradition of precision clocks in
an impressive way with the development and production of
the Classica Secunda 2095 model. A high-precision clock
movement perfectly fits into the newly designed grandfather
clock case. The task of this movement limits itself to one and
only one purpose: accurately displaying the time. With
a deviation of only one to two seconds per month, this
minutely designed and manufactured 30-day movement meets
even the highest expectations.
Milled, gold-plated wheels revolve on arbors crafted in a
special Swedish steel rotating within five stainless steel ball
bearings and eleven jewel bearings. The jewel bearings
are mounted in diamond-cut chatons, each of which are
screw-mounted onto the four-millimeter hard brass plates by
three polished stainless steel screws. A three-kilogram weight
running down the side allows a power reserve of one month
as well as an unimpeded view of the one-second pendulum.
A power-maintaining mechanism additionally continues to
supply the movement with enough energy to run while the
clock is being wound.
In order to guarantee energy transmission but as little wear
as possible, the Graham escapement is equipped with
agate pallets.
The observer can watch the exciting interplay between
the escape wheel and the pallets through a cutaway in the
silver-plated, engraved dial. An especially loving detail is the
hand-domed and -polished stainless steel escape wheel
bridge that is secured to the front base plate with blued
screws. The fine poire hands – indivdually domed, polished,
and blued by hand – are shaped according to historic
examples.
The faceted crystal panes and the walnut inlay of the case
back together with the case’s narrow trim and frame elements
convey an elegant appearance. Another reason for this is
the high quality of thirteen layers of varnish applied over
a period of fourteen days together with several hand
polishing steps.
All these details are united in a harmonious unit to shape
a wonderful grandfather clock, fitting in even the most
exclusive environment.
