As the mercury rises,
summer celebrations
on the Sunshine Coast
move into full swing.
The laid-back tropical
mood sets the scene
for get-togethers by the ocean,
while the balmy weather makes
cool cocktails, a chilled glass of
white wine or a cold beer all the
more seductive. Come December,
the beachside holiday towns come
alive with music, festivals and
summer parties. Here’s how to
celebrate the sunny season with
friends and family.
FOLLOW THE MUSIC
Groove to the beat of new music
at Solbar in Maroochydore, where
a stream of talented local and
national musicians showcase
original live music, from 6pm to
3am Wednesdays to Sundays;
entry costs between AU$10 and
AU$20. The cocktail bar caters
for acoustic musicians, while the
band room has live gigs. Solbar’s
program includes national and
local acts and tickets sell out fast.
Another relaxing spot to chill
out while listening to music is Café
Envy in Cotton Tree, where local
musicians entertain while you chat
with friends over coff ee and cake,
from 2pm to 5pm on Sundays. If
you fancy something stronger, the
café also has a BYO licence.
PARTY TIME
Celebrate the season with a
dance party in the park, where
cold beer fl ows and the smell of
sizzling barbecues waft through
the air. At Peregian Beach and
Nambour, the reggae, funk and
hip-hop bands performing at the
Peregian Originals gigs will have
you on your feet. These open-air
concerts are held on the fi rst and
third Sundays of each month
