Among this year’s applicants there are headmasters, inspectors,<br />

superintendents and teachers. Dahl hope and believe that the<br />

applicant boom can help to do something with the need to ensure<br />

relevant expertise, and to recruit new principals. Many are reluctant<br />

to apply to the principal positions because they are unsure whether<br />

or not they have what it takes to tackle the job.<br />

– In many municipalities, it is common that you are promoted<br />

through the ranks, from teacher to middle manager and then princi-<br />

pal. But as the principal you get many diffi cult tasks that you have<br />

not been instructed in during the teacher education. When they<br />

says Dahl. She points out that the school principal education has<br />

earned a good reputation. Just knowing that you can further edu-<br />

cate yourself gives self-confi dence enough to apply for positions,<br />

Dahl thinks.<br />

– We will undoubtedly get more and more potential leaders when<br />

teachers are now joining in.<br />
