Hydro divests automotive structures activities
Norsk Hydro ASA will sell
its automotive structures
business to Benteler Automobiltechnik
GmbH, the
automotive division of the
large German industrial
enterprise Benteler Group
with headquarters in Paderborn.
The agreement is in line
with Hydro’s strategy to focus
its extruded activities on profiles
solutions and building
systems.
The transaction is
expected to be cash neutral for
Hydro, and an estimated after
tax loss of NOK250 million
will be recognized in Hydro’s
fourth quarter 2009 results.
Hydro expects the transaction
to close by the end of the
fourth quarter 2009 subject
to clearance by relevant competition
authorities and other
anti-trust bodies.

Solios Carbone
contract for Hindalco
Fives Solios green anode plant
In August 2009, Solios Carbone
has been awarded a
global order by Hindalco
for its two new smelters to
be built in India. The capacity
of both greenfield smelters
will be of 360,000 tpy of
aluminium. Each one will
consist in one line of 360
pots based on AP36 technology
operating at 360 kA.
The contract consists of a
turnkey 35 tph green anode
plant for the Mahan project
located in Madhya Pradesh
State and a turnkey 52 tph
green anode plant for the
Aditya project located in
Orissa State. EIL is the engineering
company assisting
Hindalco in the execution of
those projects.
Both green anode plant
will be equipped with Solios
Carbone’s latest technologies
such as Rhodax for dry
material preparation, IMC
for paste preparation, mixing
and cooling, and Xelios, the
latest generation of vibrocompacting
machine for anode
forming. The Aditya green
anode plant will be similar to
the one that Solios Carbone
is presently commissioning
at Qatalum in Qatar.
These contracts will be
implemented by a consortium
led by Solios Carbone
with Fives India and McNally

Bharat Engineering (MBE)
for detail engineering, fabrication,
construction, erection
and civil works. Fives India,
the manufacturing subsidiary
of the Fives group, will
be responsible for the local
procurement of certain key
equipment and the integration
of the related engineering
data into 3D models.
Turnkey supply of gas
treatment centres
for Balco smelter
expansion
Solios Environment SA
has been awarded a contract
by Vedanta for their Balco
expansion project located in
Korba , India. The production
capacity of this smelter
expansion will be of 750,000
tpy of aluminium with two
lines of 336 electrolysis pots
(one new line and one revamping
of a Soderberg line), based
on GAMI technology operating
at 365 kA. The contract
consists of the turnkey supply
of four gas treatment centres,
each fitted with 18 TGT-RI filters
and four exhaust fans to
treat gases coming from the
pots. It includes two large concrete
alumina storage silos of
3,000 tonnes and two concrete
stacks of 80 metres high.
