Like a dog which will not stop
eating until it kills him. We too,
follow our instinct to the point of
making ourselves sick, emotionally
and physically. We work and stress
beyond what is healthy. Some
people destroy their families and
take their own life when they lose
money (although they have enough
left to live a good life).
The problem is that while
we obsessively and blindly try to
secure our survival, we miss out
on life as it takes place right here
and right now. While we are busy
rejecting what we don’t like and
frantically searching for what we do
– life is unfolding and passing by us
; in its own shape or form; whether
we like it or not. Your life is what
it is right now – right at this very
moment – including all that you do
like or all that you don’t, all that you
do accept and all that you reject.
And if you are not aware and awake
enough to experience it – you will
simply miss out on your life!
So try and train your mind
to become more mindful of itself.
Try to remind yourself to interrupt
the continuous chatter of your mind
whenever possible and simply watch
your mind. Become alert and awake
of all that is taking place right now,
including your thoughts and feelings.
Instead of getting lost in your
stories, observe them. See them for
what they are: stories. You cannot
stop your mind from spinning tales
of the past and the future, but you
can become an observant of them,
rather than getting lost in them.
This way, your stories will have less
emotional charge on your physical
being. This way, you will, in time,
learn to become quiet enough inside
of your mind so that you can take in
all the joy and pleasures that life is
offering you every day.
A Poem By Rumi
Not Christian or Jew or Muslim,
Not Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen.
Not any Religion or Cultural System.
I am Not from the East or the West,
Not out of the Ocean or up from the Ground,
Not Natural or Ethereal,
Not composed of Elements at All.
I do not Exist, am not an Entity
in this World or the Next,
did not descend from Adam and Eve
Or any Origin Story.
My place is placeless,
A trace of the traceless.
Neither Body or Soul.
I belong to the Beloved,
I have seen the two Worlds as One,
and that One call to and Know,
First, Last, Outer, Inner,
Only that breath-breathing
HUMAN BEING. RUMI
