result in finding economic precious metal deposits as is the case in
Yubdo. PGM occurrences have dso ken reported together wjth
gold from se~eral secondary type occurrences in Western Ethiopia
(WolIega) (e.g. Dalleti, Tulu Dimtu, residual and Soddu. placer).
Similar occurrences bve been found southwest dong the belt in
the Omo River region.
As to the origin, Platinum Group Metals (Platinum (Ft),
Palladium (Pd), Iridium ,(Ir), Rhodium (Rh), Osmium (bs), and
Ruthenium (Ru)) have g$etic &mities to both Ni-Cu-sulphides
and chromiies. However, while the fundammtal processes
involved in the formation of mi-Cu and chromite deposits are
relatively simple, the concenktion and depodtion of PGM
appears to k a not too well understood, dverst and multistage
process. S evd lines of evidence indicate that PGM can:
- Fractionated magmatic fluids enriched in PGMS ascending
under the influence of dipIacement by the cumulus phases;
- Deposition h m hydrothermal solutions.,
- Sulfide dmplets pass through turbulent convecting magmas
and scavenge the PGM's from these magmas. Upon
cooling, the sulfides and suspended crystals sink, giving
rise to cumulate layers;
- Contamination of the magma with the coutry mcks
triggers the precipitation of sulfides and their PGM' s.
