Beijing Opera Costumes
Duke 233
Ancient China was known as the land of impeccable
attire and codes of dress became
a way to identify one’s place in
society. The traditional theatre form of Beijing
opera, evolving within this rank-and
clothing-conscious context, logically absorbed
a design language that emphasized
the use of clothing to identify
characters onstage. Through a complex
system of visual cues from the form, color
and surface designs, the costumes of the
Beijing opera communicate the characters
to the audience.
from an Operations Model to a
Governance Model with an
Executive Director
Duke 231
In June of 2008 McCarthy Arts Consulting
submitted the organizational assessment of
USITT that had been contracted by the
board. Soon after the presentation of the report,
the recommended actions
included in it. A Transition Advisory Team
was created and charged with keeping the
process moving ahead. Much work has
been done in that short span of time and
this session is an opportunity to share the
progress and discuss with the membership
the bright future of USITT. Doug Stannard,
President of the Louisiana Crafts Guild, and
Michael J. Peitz, Executive Director of
EdTA, will talk about their organization’s
successful transition process that included
