Can We Do it Cheaper? Cost Saving
Measures for Theatre in These
Strained Economic Times
Duke 260
Discuss alternate techniques in technical
theatre, designed to cut expenses in difficult
economic times. When the budgets get
cut, what can designers and technical directors
do to save money? In a round-table
forum, we will look at ways to do some of
the magic of theatre on a shoestring—at
times, literally. Can’t afford a turntable?
Have we forgotten how to make Periaktoi?
RoseBrand’s molding cloth out of your
budget? We used to use cheesecloth and
glue. Vacuum-form sheets too expensive?
Bricks can be made from homosote, paint,
and sawdust. Sometimes you have to reinvent
the wheel to move your production forward.
