R. Michael Gros serves on the faculty of<br />

Kansas State University. He is the former artistic<br />

director of PCPA Theaterfest where he produced<br />

or directed more than 70 Equity<br />

productions. He worked at the Utah Shakespearean<br />

Festival, Shakespeare Santa Cruz,<br />

South Coast Repertory Theatre, and the Center<br />

Back of House Design<br />

Carlton Guc is co-founder of Stage Research,<br />

Inc., has parlayed his expertise in software<br />

engineering and his avocation as a<br />

sound designer in both community and professional<br />

theatre to build a company with a<br />

reputation for developing industry-standard<br />

products for live entertainment. Before<br />

launching Stage Research he served as Lead<br />

Software Developer at Cleveland-based Certus<br />

whose NOVI software became known as<br />

Norton AntiVirus v.3 when the firm was purchased<br />

by Symantec. Exploring the role of<br />

software in theater, he teamed with Brad Rembielak<br />

to form Stage Research in 1993 and<br />

kick off their flagship product, SFX, to play<br />

back prerecorded music and sound effects.<br />

High-profile customers came onboard and accolades<br />

followed. The partners have grown<br />

their offerings to include SoftPlot, Show-<br />

Builder and LightFactory making all aspects of<br />

sound, lighting and show control, and their<br />

administrative functions, user friendly to a<br />

Sound Playback System Round Table<br />

Julia Guichard is an associate professor<br />

at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She<br />

teaches acting, voice, speech, script analysis,<br />

and Alexander Technique in the theatre department<br />

and serves as vocal coach for the<br />

departmental productions. She is a certified<br />

teacher of the Alexander Technique, holding<br />

certificates from The Performance School and<br />

Alexander Technique International. She has<br />

taught the technique in BFA acting programs<br />

and worked as a movement and vocal coach<br />

for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble<br />

Theatre of Cincinnati, Actor’s Theatre of<br />

Middletown, and Miami University Summer<br />

Theatre. She is an active member of the Voice<br />

and Speech Trainers Association, and a VASTA<br />

Graham Gund, president of Gund Partnership,<br />

founded his own firm in 1971. Recognized<br />

for its creative design solutions and<br />

thoughtfully crafted details, his work has received<br />

wide critical acclaim, and has earned<br />

the firm more than 100 awards for design excellence.<br />

Andy Gutshall is the technical director for<br />

the department of theatre arts at Augustana<br />

College in Rock Island, Illinois. He earned his<br />

MFA in technical theatre from the University<br />

of Nebraska Lincoln. He holds a BS in theatre<br />

design/production from Illinois State University,<br />

as well as an AS in business management<br />

from the College of Dupage. He has been the<br />

production and technical operations coordinator<br />

for the University of Wisconsin-Eau<br />

Claire and was the facilities technical director<br />

at Concordia University Saint Paul where he<br />

taught <strong>stage</strong>craft and lighting design. He was<br />

a master carpenter for Utah Shakespeare Festival,<br />

the technical director for the Nebraska<br />

Repertory Theatre, Lakeshore Players Summer<br />

Youth Project, and Lincoln Christian<br />

School. He is the scenic and lighting designer<br />

for Opera @ Augustana and has designed<br />

lighting for numerous dance companies in<br />

Minnesota. He is a member of IATSE Local 85<br />

and his design work was published in World<br />

Stage Design 2005.<br />

Tom Hackman is an assistant professor<br />

of theatre design and technology at Davis &<br />

Elkins College, Elkins, West Virginia. He received<br />

his MFA from the University of Virginia.<br />

Design Commission’s Vice-Commissioner for<br />

Amanda Haley<br />

Bringing Order to the Chaos<br />

Delbert Hall is a professor of theatre at<br />

East Tennessee State University, where he has<br />

taught since 1986. He is an ETCP certified rigger<br />

and an ETCP recognized trainer with over<br />

27 years’ experience flying performers. He<br />

founded Hall Associates, Inc., the flying effects<br />

company that he ran for 13 years. He is involved<br />

in rigging for circus and aerial dance<br />

performers, and regularly teaches workshops<br />

on <strong>stage</strong> and aerial rigging, in addition to<br />

doing rigging inspections, and <strong>stage</strong> and aerial<br />

rigging. He received his BS from Western<br />

Carolina University. He is the Southeast Region<br />

Section’s Outstanding Educator in The-<br />

atrical Design and Technology for 2000-2001,<br />

and received an Outstanding Achievement<br />

Award for special effects rigging from the<br />

Kennedy Center for the Arts in 2000.<br />

Geoffrey Hall graduated from New York<br />

University, Tisch School of the Arts with an<br />

MFA in scenic design. He has worked on<br />

Broadway, feature films, regional theatres, Off<br />

Broadway, industrials, commercials, and television<br />

as an art director, scenic designer, and<br />

production designer. He is an assistant professor<br />

at Loyola University in New Orleans,<br />

Louisiana, and a member of United Scenic<br />

Artists Local 829.<br />

Han Chuenqi was the costume designer<br />

for the closing ceremony of Beijing Olympic<br />

2008. One of the most important costume designers<br />

in China, he is the dean of the design<br />

department of the National Dance Academy of<br />

China, and director of the Committee of Costume<br />

Design for the OISTAT Center in China.<br />

He has been actively involved in many major<br />

performance and activities both nationally and<br />

internationally. His artistic talent has been well<br />

recognized with numerous national awards.<br />

His recent design credits include: the Opening<br />

Ceremony of 21st International University<br />

Games; the Opening Ceremony of the Kunming<br />

International Expo.; the Ceremony of the<br />

39th National Anniversary of the Singapore<br />

Tony Hardin earned his MFA in scenic design<br />

from the University of Virginia in 1999.<br />

He is an associate professor of theatre at the<br />

University of Kentucky where he teaches scenic<br />

design, <strong>stage</strong> management, scenic painting,<br />

and freshman studio. He also designs<br />

scenery and lighting for UK Theatre and mentors<br />

student designers around Lexington and<br />

the state of Kentucky. He has served on the<br />

Board of Directors of the Kentucky Theatre Association.<br />

Roy Harline completed his MFA in theatre<br />

design technology from Brigham Young University<br />

over South Texas, West Texas, and New Mexico<br />

Robert Harris is an actor and accomplished<br />

visual artist from the Cincinnati, Ohio<br />

advocating for people with disabilities.<br />

Robert recently presented a solo<br />

exhibition of art works at the Arts for All<br />

Gallery at VSA of Georgia in Atlanta in January<br />

Michael M. Harvey is an assistant professor<br />

of design at Southern Utah University,<br />

for the department of theatre arts and dance.<br />

Previously, he spent eight years teaching and<br />

designing at Central Lakes College in Minnesota.<br />

He also spent two years teaching at<br />

the University of Southern Indiana and served<br />

Primedia Inc. television productions; and production<br />

Chuck Hatcher is an associate professor<br />

lecturer for 12 years with the department<br />

of theatre, film, and dance at Cornell<br />

and most recently at Ensemble Theartre of<br />

Cincinnati and Cincinnati Playhouse in the<br />
