Del Unruh, professor of theatre and film at<br />

the University of Kansas, has designed over 250<br />

productions and maintains an active professional<br />

design practice in the Kansas City area.<br />

His work has been seen at the Missouri Repertory<br />

Dinner Playhouse Inc. and work has been featured<br />

Kenneth John Verdugo is a former art<br />

critic and now an artist who designs for the<br />

<strong>stage</strong>. After working as a painter/illustrator<br />

with Disney Entertainment, he worked under<br />

Mary Heilman at SCR, served as charge at UC<br />

Irvine, and later was assistant charge at the<br />

Old Globe. He has designed for Alvin Ailey, the<br />

Colorado Ballet, and Opera Pacific. He designed<br />

Robert Cohen’s West Coast premiere<br />

of The Prince and, most recently, The Merchant<br />

of Venice for Shakespeare Dallas. He is<br />

resident designer and assistant professor at<br />

the University of North Texas.<br />

Claremarie Verheyen an associate professor<br />

at the University of Houston where she<br />

is their principal costume and make-up designer,<br />

instructor, technician, and director. She<br />

has designed over 400 productions including<br />

television, circus, and commercials. Her latest<br />

interest is in providing makeup design and<br />

technology consultation for disaster training<br />

Sherry Wagner-Henry is managing director<br />

Stage Management: No Class, No Problem<br />

Erik Walstad is currently the technical director<br />

for Cirque du Soleil’s KÀ at MGM Grand<br />

in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to joining Cirque<br />

du Soleil, Erik held the position of technical director<br />

for Portland Opera in Portland, Oregon.<br />

During his 11 years in Portland, he produced<br />

over 50 opera productions with Portland<br />

Opera and presented over 85 touring productions<br />

under the Broadway Across America<br />

Portland partnership with Live Nation Theatrical.<br />

Previously, he held the position of production<br />

manager/technical director with Lake<br />

George Opera Festival in Glens Falls, New<br />

York. Erik holds a Bachelor of Science in theatre<br />

and drama from the University of Wisconsin<br />

- Madison, as well as a Master of Fine<br />

Arts from the Yale School of Drama. He was<br />

the inaugural recipient of the KM Fabrics Inc.,<br />

Technical Production Award, presented at the<br />

USITT Conference in 1995.<br />

Beyond the Proscenium<br />

Buzz Ward is in his 17th year as executive<br />

director of the Playhouse where he oversees<br />

all aspects of the administrative, financial, and<br />

production support operations of the theatre,<br />

generating financial surpluses yearly. Additionally<br />

he is overseeing the potential capital<br />

project for the Playhouse which would create<br />

new facilities. From 1988-92, he was general<br />

manager for the Yale School of Drama/Yale<br />

Repertory Theatre and taught on the faculty of<br />

the theatre administration MFA graduate program<br />

for four years. While there, he coordinated<br />

the finances for Yale’s Broadway<br />

production of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson.<br />

He earned his bachelor’s degree in English<br />

and theatre from Princeton University and<br />

his MBA at the Harvard Business School. He<br />

serves as section secretary for his Harvard<br />

Business School class. He is a site evaluator<br />

for the National Endowment for the Arts,<br />

treasurer for the League of Resident Theatres,<br />

and secretary for Ohio Citizens for the Arts. He<br />

works with Business Volunteers for the Arts<br />

and Business on Board for the Fine Arts Fund,<br />

and he served as a member of the Theatre Advisory<br />

<strong>Pan</strong>el for the Ohio Arts Council for four<br />

years. He was the keynote speaker at the Polish<br />

National Theatre Conference in Warsaw,<br />

Poland, in 1998.<br />

Mark Wethington is an assistant professor<br />

of theatre design at the University of Nebraska<br />

at Kearney. He has taught at<br />

College. Prior to joining academia, Mark designed<br />

scenery and or lighting with the<br />

Delaware Theatre Company, Contemporary<br />

American Theatre Festival (CATCO), New<br />

Stage Theatre, New Venture Theatre, Bigfork<br />

Summer Playhouse, Columbus Children’s theatre,<br />

Florida State University, Florida State<br />

Opera, and Bowling Green State University. He<br />

was technical director of the Delaware Theatre<br />

Company, Williamstown Theatre Festival,<br />

Monomoy Theatre, CATCO, New Venture Theatre,<br />

and New Stage Theatre. He has done scenic<br />

consulting work with the Pontifical College<br />

Josephenium, acted professionally, and has<br />

his class B pyrotechnics shooters certificate.<br />
