PATENT<br />

GRANTING CHARTER FOR THE COLLEGE OF GALWAY.<br />

VICTORIA, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom<br />

of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the<br />

:Faith, and soforth, to all unto whom these presents<br />

shall come, greeting. Whereas, by Letters Patent under<br />

the Great Seal of Ireland, bearing date at Dublin, the<br />

thirtieth day of December. in the ninth year of our reign,<br />

and made under the provisions of an Act passed in a<br />

Session of Parliament holden in the eighth and ninth<br />

year of our reign, entitled, "An Act to enable Her<br />

Majesty to endow Hew Colleges for the Adyancement of<br />

Learning in Ireland," WE willed, ordained, constituted,<br />

declared, and appointed, that ill or near Galway,<br />

in the province of Connaught, there should and<br />

might be erected and established one perpetual College<br />

for Students in Arts, Law, Physic, and other useful<br />

learning, to be called by the name of " Queen's College,<br />

Galway," and should consist of one President, one Vice­<br />

President, and such number of Professors in Arts, Law,<br />

and Physic, not exceeding twelve in number, as should<br />

be appointed under and by virtue of the said recited Act:<br />

And whereas, by Letters Patent under the Great Seal<br />

of Ireland, bearing date the eleventh day of December,<br />

in the thirteenth year of our reign, WE did increase the<br />

number of Professors in said Queen's College, Galway,<br />

and constitute Rules, Statutes, and Ordinances for the<br />

government of the same.<br />

Now, know ye, that WE have revoked and determined,<br />

and do by these presents revoke and determine the said<br />

recited Letters Paten t, and every clause, article, and thing<br />

therein contained respectively:<br />

And deeming it to be the duty of our Royal Office to<br />

afford to all classes and denominations of our faithful<br />

subjects, without any distinction of religious creed what-<br />
