may withhold either Scholarship if sufficient merit be not<br />

shown, and ma.y assign the Scholarship so withhel,l to the<br />

other department. Exhibitions may also be awarded.<br />

4. SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING.<br />

Two Junior Scholarships are awarded III the Fir" t<br />

Year.<br />

The course for these Scholarships is the same as that<br />

prescribed for the Science Scholarsbips of the First Year<br />

in the Faculty of Arts (page 20). The Council may<br />

withhold the Scholarships, or award Exhibitions as in the<br />

Faculty of Arts.<br />

nL-JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE SECOND YEAR.<br />

[The Council exercises the same power of withholding<br />

or transferring these Scholarships, and of granting Exhibitions<br />

as in the case of the Junior Scholarships of the<br />

First Year. For dates of Examin[1tions and rCj.;ulations<br />

see pages Hand 10.]<br />

1. FACULTY OF ARTS.<br />

Ten Junior Scholarships (tenable for two years; see<br />

page 10) are awarded to students who hare complelt·,\<br />

their First Year's course in this or other recoglli,;ed<br />

College or University, five for proficiency in Literary<br />

Studies, [1nd five for proficiency in Scientific Studies.<br />

A. LITERARY SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE SECOND YEAR.<br />

Subjects :i.<br />

Latin.<br />

ii. Anyone of the following languages :­<br />

Greek, French, German, ltaliall.<br />

(Candidates may answer in two, but not in more, of<br />

these four languages.)<br />
