COLLEGE BUILDINGS.<br />
THE College, erected in 1848, is situated on the west<br />
side of the River Corrib, which divides its grounds from<br />
the town of Galway. It is built of cut lime-stone from the<br />
neighbourhood, in the form of a quadrangle. The style is<br />
gothic of the 14th century. Over the principal entrance<br />
facing the town is a clock tower, 108 feet high. The private<br />
t'esidences of the President and Registrar with the Examination<br />
Hall occupy the west side. The Lihrary, over<br />
130 feet in length, extends along the first floor of the<br />
north side. It contains upwards of 35,000 volumes in<br />
the various departments, to which constant additions arc<br />
made of the most recent standard works. Beneath it are<br />
the Drawing school and Lecture rooms of the Engineering<br />
department. Corresponding to it on the south side is the<br />
Museum of Natural History, under which are the Labor<br />
.atory, Museum and Lecture rooms of Natural Philosophy.<br />
The Laboratories of Chemistry and of Practical Physiology<br />
with the Museums of Geology and Mineralogy and<br />
of Gyn::ecology, which are descr-ibed under the departments<br />
to which they belong, and various Lecture rooms<br />
()ccupy the rest of the main buildings. The Anatomical<br />
School is situated in the north-west corner of the grounds.<br />
The Botanical Gardens, the cricket and football fields,<br />
the tennis and racquet courts are in the grounds Sm'rounding<br />
the principal Building, as are also the Meteorological<br />
instruments, which are in charge of one of the<br />
Oollege officers. The majority of the students reside<br />
during term in Salthill, which lies on Galway Bay,<br />
about a mile distant from the College.<br />
