B. MATHEMATICAL PHYSICS.<br />

Instruction in this subject is imparted by means of<br />

lectures and by the use of text-books.<br />

LECTURE COURSES.-Tl.ree courses of lectures are delivered<br />

extending o,'er the whole Session-one to Pass<br />

Students of the Second Year, one to Honour Students of<br />

the Second Year, and one to Honour Students of the<br />

Third Year. Pass Students of the Third Year attend<br />

the Honour Course of the Second Year. A class for Students<br />

reading the M.A. Honour Course of the Royal<br />

1'niversity in Mathematical Physics may be arranged with<br />

the Professor. An additional ccurtie of lectures is given<br />

by the Senior Scholar to Pass Students of the Second<br />

Year.<br />

The subjects treated in the courses of the Second Year<br />

are those branches of Mathematical Physics prescrih€d for<br />

the Second University Examinations of the Royal University<br />

ill Arts and Engineering. The Third Year Course<br />

includes those branches of Mathematical Physics, prescribed<br />

by the Royal Universityfor the Degrees ofB.A.<br />

and B.E, with Honours.<br />

TEXT-BoOKS :-The Text-books recommended for the Second Year<br />

Courses are Loney's Mechanics and Hydrostatics for Beginners,<br />

Loney's Treatise cn Elementary Dynamics, Greaves' Statics, Heath's<br />

Elementary Optics, Besan!'s Elementary Hydrost .. tics, Mathematical<br />

Astronomy, by Barlow and Bryan.<br />

For the Third Year Course the following Text-books are recommended<br />

:-Eouth's Statics, vols. I. and 11., Williamson and Tarletoll'.<br />

Dynamics, Routh's Elementary Rigid Dynamics, Heath's Geometrical<br />

Optics, Besan!'s Hydromechanics, Part I., Godfray's Astronomy,<br />

Frost's Newton.<br />

LIBRARy:-The College Library contains a large collection of<br />

standard works on the ,'arious branches of Mathematical nnd<br />

Experimental Physics, and their allied subjects, and receive,. many<br />

British and foreign scientific periodicale and journals.<br />
