KAGAWA, ASLA LEED AP DIVISION CHIEF SUBJECT: AQUATICS MASTER PLAN UPDATE- ITEM II ______________________________________________________________________________ This week marks the third visit to Alexandria by the consultant team of Kinley- Horn/Counsilman-Hunsaker and Brailsford & Dunlavey. The professional consulting services of these firms have been retained to complete a Master Plan for Aquatics Facilities for the City of Alexandria. This team brings internationally recognized expertise in aquatics facilities, facilities engineering and aquatics based economic/cost analysis to reviewing and making recommendations regarding the future of the City’s aquatics programs. The team will collaborate with the Park & Recreation Commission to verify its findings and receive feedback on its recommendations, with the first formal meeting with the Commission occurring tonight. BACKGROUND: Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is pursuing an assessment and analysis of the City’s aquatics facilities as a means of establishing a basis from which to determine future strategies for meeting community aquatics needs. This Master Plan for Aquatics Facilities will: A) Confirm the aquatic programming needs of the community. B) Verify the types and quantity of facilities to meet these needs. C) Evaluate the most appropriate locations for the facilities based on traffic patterns and usage. D) Determine the financial impact of the construction and operation costs of the facilities required to meet the needs of the City of Alexandria for the next 30 years.
