Scotland; Hye Nonny Nonny Noe is borrowed from John
Collier's Scandal and Credulities of John Aubrey; A
Girtonian Funeral (which first appeared in the Journal
of Education) and For a' that and a* that (which first
appeared in Punch) are here reprinted as they appear
in A Century of Parody and Imitation. The lines on The
Horse and on The Rabbit are taken from The Week-End
Book; my version of Site was Poor but she was Honest I
owe to The Oxford Book of Light Verse; and I have
printed The Crimes of Lizzie Borden as they appear in
The Junior Week-End Book. The extract from the works
of 'Owen Meredith', given on p. 154, has, like many of
the Occasional Lapses, already been anthologized in
The Stuffed Owl, which also includes a fuller (and perhaps
more exact) version of The Female Friend. The
title for George Outram's poem from Lyrics Legal and
Miscellaneous I have borrowed from the Scots Week-End.
