Byrom: A Jacobite Toast
A JACOBITE TOAST
God bless the King!—I mean the Faith's Defender;
God bless (no harm in blessing) the Pretender!
But who Pretender is, or who is King,-—
God bless ns all! That's quite another thing.
JOHN BYROM
EPIGRAM IN 1715, AND A CAMBRIDGE
REPLY
JOSKPIl TRAPF
11
With equal skill to Cambridge books he sent,
For Whigs admit no force but argument.
