Strong: The Brewer's Man
THE BREWER'S MAN
Have I a wife? Bedam I have!
But we was badly mated:
I hit her a great clout one night,
And now we're separated.
And mornin's, going to my work,
I meets her on the quay:
'Good mornin' to ye, ma'am,' says I;
'To hell with ye,' says she.
A MEMORY
L. A. O. STRONG
When I was as high as that
I saw a poet in his hat.
I think the poet must have smiled
At such a solemn gazing child.
Now wasn't it a funny thing
To get a sight of J. M. Synge,
And notice nothing but his hat?
Yet life is often queer like that.
A SHOT AT RANDOM
(In imitation of Longfellow)
L. A. G. STRONG
I shot an arrow into the air:
I don't know how it fell, or where;
But, strangely enough, at my journey's end,
I found it again in the neck of a friend.
