There was a Man of Thcssaly,
And he was wondrous wise:
He jumped into a briar hedge
And scratched out both his eyes.
But when he saw his eyes were out,
With all his might and main
He jumped into another hedge
And scratched them in again.

Great Bacchus, born in thunder and in fire,
By native heat asserts his dreadful sire.
NourishVI near shady rills and cooling streams,
He to the nymphs avows his amorous ilames.
To all the brethren at the Bell and Vine,
The moral says; mix water with your wine.

FATAL LOVE
Poor Hal caught his death standing under a spout,
Expecting till midnight when Nan would come out,
But fatal his patience, as cruel the dame,
And curs'd was the weather that queneh'd the man's
flame.
Whoe'er thou art, that read'st these moral lines,
Make love at home, and go to bed betimes.
