Even the people are picturesque.<br />
On commercial shoots, “I cast real<br />
people, rather than go through an<br />
agency to hire models,” says Kunkel.<br />
“The population is so diverse.<br />
People dress as a way to express<br />
their identity, and they’re so open to<br />
trying things.”<br />
This was Ansel Adams’s hometown,<br />
where he received his bent nose as a<br />
result of being thrown against a wall<br />
in the 1906 earthquake. Most of<br />
the city was destroyed, and other<br />
than the redwoods, there isn’t much<br />
here that’s older than 100 years.<br />
Nonetheless, San Francisco’s visual<br />
impact remains timeless.<br />
