The 11-race schedule included new events at Cleveland and Elkhart Lake Wis., and the first CART-sanctioned event at Pocono International Raceway Rick Mears won four races and more than 5520 .000 in capturing his second consecutive PPG Cup . PPG again renewed its $I million sponsorship for the 1983 season . CART signed an unprecedented multi-year television contract with NBC Sports, which granted NBC exclusive TV rights to all CART races and provided for TV coverage of all races. The 13-race schedule included new events at Caesars Palace, Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio. Al Unser Sr . won at Cleveland and scored points in all races to defeat rookie Teo Fabi in the season s last race by five points to capture the PPG Cup and $500,109 .
