IMPROVEMENTS :
Resurfacing: Entire oval resurfaced after conclusion of 1977 season at
a cost of $400 .000. supervised by Clarence Cagle . retired
superintendent of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway .
Seating: Additional seating outside the frontstretch and the addi .
tion of pit terrace seating in 1981 bring the total seating
to 31,000.
Wall: MIS had a guard rail barrier around the oval (except in
front of seating areas) until the conclusion of the 1981
season . when construction began on 6 .000 feet of con .
crete barrier through the turns at both ends of the track .
The project was completed in spring, 1982, at a cost of
$300,000.
Other: Through the years, other improvements have been ef .
fected, including the second rebuilding of the scoring
stand structure in 1982, and previously, paving of the
garage and participant parking areas, extensions of fen .
cing, modernization of suites, new concession and rest.
room facilities, the addition of a jet-powered track drier
and new maintenance equipment .
MISCELLANEOUS :
-The pit road is 50 feet wide and contains space for 40 individual pit areas .
-The concrete wall in front of the grandstand is four feet high with a 12-foot
welded wire mesh fence .
- Parking facilities provide space for 50 .000 cars (150 acres in the infield and
300 acres outside the track) .
