Review RECORD
The Suns’ 53-29 record marked the fourth-straight year with 50 or more
wins. The Suns opened the season with a grueling November in which they 53-29
went 8-9, but rebounded to go 11-1 in December, 10-6 in January, 7-6 in
an injury-plagued February, 12-3 in March and 5-4 in April.
The season included the franchise’s 1,000th career win as the Suns became just the
12th franchise in NBA history to reach the 1,000-win plateau and only Milwaukee, Boston,
Philadelphia and the Lakers did so in less time. Phoenix’s 36-5 home record tied the team’s
previous best set during the 1978-90 and 1980-81 seasons.
Five Suns players – Jeff Hornacek, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Tom Chambers and
Tim Perry – averaged double figure scoring as Phoenix averaged 112.1 points, second in
the league.
The Suns completed their 24th and final season at Veterans Memorial Coliseum by setting
a new regular season attendance record with sellouts in each of the 41 home games.
The Suns defeated San Antonio, 3-0, in the first round of the playoffs and lost to
Portland, 4-1, in the second round. The last NBA game played at Veterans Memorial
Coliseum was a 153-151 overtime loss May 11 in Game 4 against Portland. KJ scored 35
points for the Suns while Clyde Drexler pumped in 33 for the Blazers.
